Hi , i am unable to watch a video on you tube, etc for any more than a few seconds at a time. This did not use to be a problem until recently . I have desktop connected to bt home hub 3 through cable and laptop by wireless but both give very slow speeds . according to bt i should receive 2.5 Mb/s in this area although speed test shows 0.24 Mb/s . What possibles could be slowing things down

Hi Rondylan, and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

If it used to run at the quoted speed or something near that, the most likely cause will be either the BT hub going faulty or perhaps a line fault.

Is the phone connected to the same line?

If so can you hear any background noise such as crackling or fizzing sounds on the handset?

If the line itself seems OK I would be asking for a new home hub, they don't last for ever and I have known of other router type connections going slow over time.

Other members may ask you to try some tests that I am not too familiar with, these may help to pinpoint things a bit more accurately for you.

To check if its the line or the hub.......If there is crackling or buzzing on the line.....Unplug the hub, plug your phone only into the wall socket, has the buzzing and crackling stopped?

If you have a newer wall socket please unscrew the cover, there should be a tester socket.....Try the above using the tester socket.....Also try it with the hub connected?

Any improvement on crackling or speed?

I agree with Nevs post.....
