pumpkin_feet Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Repeatedly now the comp has just switched off suddenly, and when I go to reboot, am greeted with CMOS checksum error. I need to reload the correct settings before itll work again. This has happened about five times now. I thought it could be a battery issue, but the comp has kept the correct time each time this has happened. Could it still be battery related? Quote
KenB Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Hi, Could it still be battery related? It could be. Often when the battery is failing the date and time will be affected as you say. However, the CMOS battery is the most common cause of "Checksum Error" Another cause is changes to the BIOS / BIOS update. If it is switching off suddenly I would be inclined to: 1. Remove the CMOS battery for 1 minute then replace. ( Note the + is on top ) This will reset BIOS to defaults. 2. If you still get the same problem the try replacing the CMOS battery.
