Guest George Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I just installed Windows XP Pro upgade on a Dell Inspiron B130. With about 19 minutes left in the installation, the following errors came up: bluhill.jp_ sunset.jp_ waterlil.jp_ winter.jp_ beethov9.wm_ newstrys.wm_ When these came up, I had the option to retry or cancel. If I retried, the problem would come back up again, so I elected to cancel. Now Internet Explorer isn't working properly. If I try to go home, another screen will try to open up and then locks up the computer. If I try to open a favorite, another screen will try to open and then locks up the computer. The only way I can close those screens is through the Task Master. It appear that I took a computer that was working perfectly before and ruined part of it's functions. I have done this to other computers, but never had this problem. Help please.

The upgrade didn't work properly and you will need to run it again, perhaps as a repair install. Was this a new install or an upgrade, and if so over what? If you encounter the same errors, you may need to clean the disk or CD drive, or replace one or the other. Also, this kind of error can be caused by hardware failure, such as memory. HTH -pk
Guest George Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Re: XP Pro Upgrade This computer had Windows XP and I Was trying to upgrade to XP Pro. It was installed as an upgrade. I have tried to reinstall several times and even removed my ant-virus. Nothing has helped. If you're getting the same kinds of messages, software likely won't - can't - help if it's a problem with the hardware. Try another drive or disc. If you happen to have a spare, bare hard disk on hand, you can help isolate the problem by removing the existing hard disk, installing the new one and doing a clean install. Upgrade CDs will ask for a qualifying CD - you need to find or borrow an ME CD or similar. If the install fails the same way, the problem is definitely hardware. You mean from XP Home to XP Professional? That's fine. You can do that, although for most home users there's no advantage to doing so. The error you are describing is the inability of the drive to read the CD. It's almost certainly caused by either a bad CD or a malfunctioning CD drive. > It was > installed as an upgrade.
