I have been using and like Outlook Express for many years. Now the darn thing keeps asking me if I want to compact my messages. If I say NO the same request comes up every few minutes. If I say yes it starts - runs, but does not complete and stops - then in a few minutes It starts the same mess all over again.

I keep all messages in separate folders by year in Outlook Express.

Can this be turned off.

Have a look here to see how to reset the counter to 0 in the registry. http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/why.htm#compact

You should always backup the registry before making any changes. Proceed cautiously.

On another matter I would never depend on OE to store mails. The risk of corruption high.

What about your OE problem? This is unrelated so it belongs in a new thread.

However just go to Internet Properties and change your Browsing settings to match this.

You're welcome. Quite annoying when that happens.
