heckler55 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 no worries, its a western digital WD 400JB-00ENAO. i will get on to their web site and see what i can find. Quote
heckler55 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 i found "Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows" for my drive. i will download and run it and post the report. Quote
heckler55 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 after running the above program, the only info you get is pass or fail and this drive passed. Quote
RandyL Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Nice job. Had it failed you would have got an error code. Well we can rule that out for hardware. At this point as far as hardware goes it could only be memory. If you had a different stick you could test that theory. I really wish you could have checked this issue immediately after the reinstallation. Reimaging the drive after the reinstallation might have recreated the problem. It could also be the software you reinstalled. It's obviously something. Maybe it's your AV. You could try temporarily disabling it. Do you have all your Windows updates? heckler55 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 (edited) That did it!....disabled av and POP...there it is!! RandyL you're a champ!!! now i need to know why? Is it common for b/d or any other security to interfere in this way? Edited September 24, 2011 by heckler55 Quote
RandyL Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Great we're onto something at last. I thought something might be running to either stop it from populating or using so many resources that it was slowing it way down. As to why I'm not sure. It could be a setting stopping it or it could be that a setting is using resources such as a scan in progress. I'm not familiar with Bitdefender but you could check the settings and make some changes to try and narrow it down. I wonder if there is any leftover remnants from other AV that is conflicting with Bitdefender. Maybe Starbuck can tell by the logs. Quote We are all members helping other members. heckler55 Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 i've learned more about my pc through this journey, thankyou so much. Quote
RandyL Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 We all learn together. But don't go away yet. We still would like to know why Bitdefender is doing this. I know Starbuck had you clean some AVG remnants. Maybe he knows something about these log entries because I don't. RandyL Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Thanks Starbuck. I guess that means it's just Bitdefender doing it for some reason. Starbuck without those logs you had him post we might still be at it. I didn't see any other programs except Bitdefender that might have been causing it not to mention that you eliminated a malware possibility. Thanks for everything. heckler like I said I'm not familiar with Bitdefender and it's settings but you should contact them about this. Quote We are all members helping other members. Starbuck Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 I've just taken a look at the BitDefender forums: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showforum=227 seems a lot of people are having slow downs with the newer version. @heckler55 Please double-click OTL to run it. You should see a CleanUp! button, press that button, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/cleanupbutton.png This will cleanup an assortment of tools used during malware removal, plus itself Note: MBAM will not be removed Quote Member of:UNITE
heckler55 Posted September 25, 2011 Author Posted September 25, 2011 yes, having just read that forum, im not confident in future versions as people are having trouble with 2012! Hope they will sort it out. Have run OTL clean up, thankyou starbuck. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Only a suggestion, but till BD sort out their problems I would be removing it and installing a different AV. Nev.
