Difference between "Open *.pst file" and "Add data file *.pst" ?

As far as I can see there are two methods of opening/adding an additional *.pst file

for an existing Outlook 2003 installation:

At first I can simply open a *.pst file by using the menu

file->open

On the other side I can do it through the menu

file->Data file management->Add

What is the difference ?

[some people should remain ignorant of crossposting IMHO.]

Wrong. Open lets you open an existing PST file. Add lets you create a new

one.

Not necessarily. Add ALSO lets you choose existing PST file.
