is windows defender on ???

I installed Windows Defender properly and it shows in my Add or Delete

Programs list. Can I assume that it's on and running all the time? There's

no icon in my taskbar.

When you installed Defender, you were asked to set up a schedule for how

often you wanted it to run - I have mine set to run once a day. Open it

- if it made it's last scheduled scan, that will show at the bottom

under "Last Scan at . . ." If the green check mark at the top says

everything is OK, it's fine. If the yellow exclamation point is telling

you to check for updates, do that.

By default it doesn't show a tray icon, you can run it from start > Programs

and enable it

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender support

and comments. This is not one of them.

See

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/newsgroups/default.mspx

TIP: Access these newsgroups using your default newsreader, not your

browser. See instructions on above page.

Tony:

Many thanks. The green check is there and I set Windows Defender to scan

regularly earlier. At the bottom of the web page, it says "Real Time

Protection: ON." Does that confirm that it is always protecting my computer

from outside threats?

You have it the wrong way 'round. He's "Grumpy, alias Edric."
