Guest bratboy Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Could someone please advise me on an issue. I use a USB HD enclosure and occasionally XPHome w/SP3 seems to stop seeing the HD. A simple switching of the unit off then back on seems to correct the problem but its an annoyance. Is there a simple fix so the drive stays connected permanently? Someone in another group suggested that it might be pwr saving issue and so I did go in and turn off the "Allow windows to turn off to save pwr" option for all my hubs but didn't seem to help much. I did notice my driver info says the USB driver is from 7/2001 could that be the problem and I need to somehow update it?

No, the problem likely has nothing to do with software if the power settings don't resolve it. Does that external enclosure work properly on other systems? If so, consider getting another USB port card for your system. They aren't expensive and are trivial to install - no drivers needed. HTH -pk
