sambo Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Hi everyone Right let me begin, Just got new laptop (DELL XPS l502x) preloaded with windows 7 home... I had a copy of windows 7 infinium (modded 7 enterprise or something? but looked really good!) So I thought I would give it a go. Seems that it didn't have some of the drivers needed so I needed to install these separately. I thought I had done everything until this afternoon when I tried connecting the laptop to the tv via hdmi. Nothing happened? I started going through the usual settings but couldn't get it working! Looked in device manager and under 'display adapters' - 'Standard VGA graphics adapter' I get the dreaded warning sign! I double click on 'Standard VGA graphics adapter' and get This device cannot start. (Code 10)?? So I uninstalled it, ran a registry cleaner, restarted laptop, let windows find and install it but still receive same error!!! I really need this to work as i use the laptop to watch films on the tv all the time! Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance!!! Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Hi Sambo, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, Two things are a worry, first can you explain a bit more about this infinium disk, what exactly is it? Also where did it come from and why if a Windows upgrade did it need drivers? Secondly, we never recommend registry cleaners, they are useless and do more harm than good. The only cleaner we will recommend is C.Cleaner without using the registry section. Do you have or did you make a recovery disk? you may have to use it to get your system at least back to the Windows7 home premium. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? sambo Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 Hi Nev, thanks for your reply! I used ccleaner but also ran the registry section. oopps! didnt realise its a problem? I got the disc from a friend that is running it on his laptop and it seems fine on his! Its obviously not a gen msoft release and seems to be a 'pimped up' version of windows 7 enterprise with loads of extras. as follows; -Office 2010 Pro Plus Retail converted to Volume License (version 14.0.4760.1000) (64-bit) -Phototshop CS4 -Foxit Phantom PDF Suite -WinRAR -7ZIP -Restorator 2007 -Ccleaner 3.0.5 -VLC Media Player -UltraISO -Firefox 4 -RemoveWAT 2.5 -Stardock Fences -Office 2010 Toolkit -TeamViewer 6 Portable -Windows 7 Start Button Changer -SFX Maker -Nexus Dock -eZe Bootable USB -Copy Wipe -RT7Lite -HAL7600 Activator -WOAT 3.2 KMS Activator -Rainmeter Gadget -Theme Resource Changer I really like it and hope the issue can be resolved! I have the 'dell - drivers and utility' cd that came with the laptop. Many Thanks! Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Sorry, but we cannot help with what is obviously a pirated version of software, it is against the forum rules, all I can help with is to advise you to reinstall the original Windows operating system, and start from scratch with that only. If you wish to use any upgrade we can only advise to buy from the relevant suppliers. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. sambo Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 ok can i use the cd i mentioned to get it back to its original state? Thanks Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Hi, if the disks you have are the original recovery disks for both the Windows7 operating system, and the relevant drivers, yes you can use them. It will reinstall the system back to the condition it was in when bought as that is where you want to be. The hacked or pirated software seems to have damaged things, so please don't reinstall that. If you really wanted the extra things it provides, the upgrade done legally isn't that expensive if bought through a licensed dealer and what is more, it will come with all the right drivers too. KenB Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 This "Infinitum" disk is illegal. It is available only by torrent download. If you search "infinitum" on the MS website - it comes up with nothing. The legal editions of Win7 are: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/products/compare Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
