Is there some way to stop WinXP Disk Error Checking on boot?

Is there some way to (safely) terminate the Windows XP Disk Error Checking

process during boot? There is a critical PC that needs to be accessed, but

that is running the disk check on boot-up. Just trying to reboot, however,

re-initiates the disk checking process and does not give the message 'Press

Any Key In 5 Seconds To Cancel Error Checking.' In order to bypass this in

the future, is there some way to get around this process? TIA ...
