ms2000feb Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 I have a Dell Optiplex GX260 XP Pro Pentium 4. I need to do a system restore without a OS disk to return my PC back to factory settings. Everything Ive seen thus far says to use F2,F8,F10 or F11 to get to complete system restore. None of these contain the info to do this. I called Dell and they would not tell me without me first paying them a fee for the answer. Any ideas? Quote
RandyL Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 According to the manual for your computer there is no option for reinstalling without the disks. You need the disks. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/reinstal/reinstal.htm If you are in the USA you can order them from Dell for a nominal fee. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/en/backupcd_form?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&redirect=1 Quote We are all members helping other members. Starbuck Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Hi ms2000feb The procedure you describe is not a System Restore. It is a reinstall. Please make sure this is what you actually want to do. System Restore is a component of Microsoft operating systems that allows for the rolling back of system files, registry keys, installed programs, etc., to a previous state in the event of system malfunction or failure. You don't need the Operating disc to do this. Quote Member of:UNITE
ms2000feb Posted September 26, 2011 Author Posted September 26, 2011 I need to roll back to the original settings. Sounds like I`m out of luck without buying their disks. Won`t be buying anymore Dell products. Thanks all for your help. Quote
