Guest lozza Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Hi Guys, Have a quick question. Have a global single AD spanning 6 Global Sites. Each site has TS Servers in place and working. The UK Site also has the TS Licensing Server (150 TS CALS). All The TS Servers are in Per User Mode. I am dropping Licensing configuration i.e. mode and license server name, via Group Policy Can someone let me know what happens if the the Licensing server becomes unavailable for any short amount of time (1 min to upto 24 hours)... Will no one be able to access the Terminal Services environment until it comes back i.e. will all access be cut off to the TS environments? Lozza
Guest Frane Borozan Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Re: TS Licensing Scenario Client TS CALs ar valid up to 89 days. If the license server goes down, clients that already have licenses are OK. New clients and clients with expired CALs won't be able to connect. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/ts/cc671614.aspx Please read How do I configure Terminal Services Licensing servers for redundancy or high availability? on that link -- Frane Borozan Terminal Services and Citrix Presentation Server user & application logging http://www.terminalserviceslog.com
Guest Ratnesh Yadav[MSFT] Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Re: TS Licensing Scenario Lozza mentioned, that TS are in Per User Mode, Hence even if License Server is not available for a short period of time, connections to the TS will be allowed. This is because TS Per User mode is not enforced. This is true for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. Guest Jeff Pitsch Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Re: TS Licensing Scenario Are you sure about that Ratnesh? It has been experience that TS still does a check for the license server and if it doesn't find it in 1 to 2 hours, the TS box will disable TS logins. This has been true for Win2k3 and both per user/device modes. I don't know about Win2k3.
