VGA LEAD EXTENSION TO 40 INCH TV

I have just bought a 40 inch flat tv and I have connected it to my 17 inch toshiba laptop,I have connected a male to male vga lead and all is fine ACCEPT there lots of lines in the background on the tv,the laptop screen is fine,I use to have a different tv and there was no problem,I was hoping that maybe someone could help me with this..

What is the resolution on the pc set to ? Try changing this and see if there is any change.

 

What is the make and model number of the TV ?

Please post the make and model of your tv as that would help tremendously :)

 

Check to see if theres any interference when you play with the VGA wire connected to your TV, just gently play around with the wire while its connected to your laptop and see if there is any flickering. Is your tv near any wireless equipment? it could be signal interference. Try moving your laptop further away from your TV (Long shot, but it does happen).

 

It could also be your laptop refresh rate is higher or lower than what the vga cable is allowing your tv to display at (standard vga cables are usually only capable of putting out around 75hz) so if your tv can support 100hz+ (which is common for most big screen tv's nowadays) it could cause tearing, try setting your laptop refresh rate to 50-75hz. They usually go up in increments of 5, but can vary, so test them all and see if it makes a difference.
