Some XP machines in our office are automatically shutting down while working,

automatic update is set to manual. Scanned computers for any kinds of viruses

as well as spy ware, still not able to find any problem. System will work

normally after switching on, recurrence this problem, might be once in a week

or twice a week etc, some machines twice a month.

Sounds like some sort of power or overheating issue. Got a bunch of machines

plugged into a power strip/surge protector* which is plugged into an

extension cord? Got substandard wiring? In any case, this sounds like

hardware with possible environmental factors and not software.

*Surge protectors are just glorified multi-plug extension cords.

Excess heat will do that.

Have an electrician check your office's power system, something may be

wrong with it, causing power fluctuations/surges. Also, check the

local temperature, some PCs may be overheating.

Others have mentioned power or lack thereof for this kind of behavior.

When's the last time your techs or your employees took the old case

off and looked to make sure the fans are spinning and blasting out the

dust and junk with canned air?
