Guest MargarineFly Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I have no idea what is wrong with my computer. But it just keeps getting worse. I keep getting these adware or spyware or something? It's like Windows XP Virus Detector things that keep popping up. Now I got one that said Windows Vista, and I don't even have Vista. I think it got removed when I ran the Anti spyware program I have. The computer seems to be working better. Except now when I go to start menu, there's not options for programs, or run, or control panel or anything like that. Anyone know what is going on, or have any advice to fix it? :[

Yes, something is seriously wrong. Your computer is infected with a rogue antivirus program. It is called "rogue" because it pretends to be A Good Guy but is really Evil. Do not pay them! You can look for removal steps for your specific malware here: Bleeping Computer removal how-to's - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html In many cases the computer will also be infected with Zlob and/or Vundo trojans and protected by a rootkit. These machines are extremely difficult to clean. If your machine is one of these cases, either get guided help at one of the specialty forums below OR back up your data and do a clean install of Windows. It is your choice. If you are unsure how to back up your data or how to do a clean install, you can take your machine to a local computer professional. I don't recommend using BigComputerStore/GeekSquad types of places. PLEASE DO NOT POST LOGS IN THE MS NEWSGROUPS. http://aumha.net/ - Click on the HijackThis forum. Guest MargarineFly Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 RE: Something Seriously Wrong Thanks for trying to help. I really have no idea what to do there though. So I guess I will have to eventually get someone to look at it for me.

Don't wait because your computer may be part of a botnet now and be busy spewing spam and doing other undesirable activities, stealing passwords, attacking websites, etc. Or take the machine off the Internet and any local area network until you can get it fixed.
