matabhaine Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I have an asus striker extreme 2 mobo and an intel Q9650 cpu 3ghz I bought 1666 ram with its own heatsink. It runs at 1333 and the CPU runs at 2ghz, the CPU is a 3ghz CPU and the ram is 1666 nothing OC. I changed the voltages in the bios slightly but my PC was unstable, 100% CPU Usage, this was infact due to a program MSMPENG.exe. I am looking for some advice, fsb etc, I wish the CPU to run at 3ghz and the ram 1666 if possible; not too fussed about the ram but the CPU I really wish to run at its full speed. The cpu was running fine a 3gz for ages, but then I was getting alot of cpu 100% usage and crashes, so I put the voltages to auto, turns out it was a program that was causing a conflict that made the cpu run at %100 usage. Now the CPU runs at 2ghz, any advice would be appreciated. Windows xp, 4gig ram (I know not all ram shows up). Palit 9600 gt GC Quote
KenB Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Hi, CPU runs at 2ghz, the CPU is a 3ghz This could be a built-in feature. When the CPU is idle it is clocked down to 2Ghz. It is there to conserve power and reduce heat production. It is called "Demand Based Switching" Do you have "speedstep" as a BIOS feature - and is it enabled? If so - try disabling it. This should switch off DBS If your CPU goes back to "Normal" I suggest enabling speedstep again. I think your CPU is probably performing normally Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! matabhaine Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 cpu from the frying pan to the fire 100% cpu usage 1st thanx for the help, I looked in bios, it is there, but due to your clear explanation, I am going to leave it on ENABLED. But now another issue has arisen yet again; I am getting 100% cpu usage again! I uninstalled MS Secuirity Essentials; basically MSMPENG.exe was causing the system to conflict, it was fine for a while. I have installed rapport secuirty a program from rbs online banking and comodo firewall lately and netlimiter, dont know if this has anything to do with it, it only happens online, I click my favourites and it crashed once, I have been trying to obtain a texture from a site but my pc goes 100 cpu usage, any help appreciated. KenB Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Hi again Download MBAM from here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_pro Click on "Products" - you want the free version. Install > Update > Run It will produce a log when the scan is complete. Post this here. If there is anything showing in the log one of our experts will advise you further. You DO have an AV on your system ? 2 AVs will conflict and cause problems. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! matabhaine Posted October 7, 2011 Author Posted October 7, 2011 Thanx for the help. Just to say I keep getting loads of connections to the internet, E.G. I went onto BEBO and it went up to something like 129 connections, when this happens my pc slows down and crashes, I know some sites have loads of adds but it seems to be at the detriment of my PC. KenB Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 When you downloaded Comodo are you sure that the AV box wasn't ticked? Apparently Comodo will install an AV as well as the Firewall if it isn't blanked out. You could have 2 AVs onyour system without knowing it. Also: Rapport. I have been speaking with Starbuck ( Admin / Security Expert ) regarding "Rapport". Neither he nor I use it. I cannot repeat what he said about it - but you can gather that it wasn't very complimentary. I would revove this. There is absolutely no need for it if you have an AV and Firewall. They say it does not conflict but there are many cases where it has been proved that it does. I suggest you remove this. Get back to me re. AVs What is on your system?
