Guest bigjohn Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I’m running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 on a Dell Dimension 4600 desktop computer. I have a downloaded update for Outlook that will not install. It keeps trying to install and fails every time. Also, when I try to uninstall a program, I get an error message that reads: “The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.” I am running in normal mode, not safe mode. Any suggestions as to how I can resolve this problem? -- Thanks, John

Guest bigjohn Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 RE: Windows Installer Problem I executed your two suggested commands, then was able to: 1) successfully run the Outlook update 2) uninstall Adobe Reader V8 3) download and install Adobe Reader V9 It looks like I'm back in working order. Your help is greatly appreciated! -- Thanks, John "Andrew E." wrote: > Try run, type:msiexec /unregister After, return to run, type:msiexec > /regserver > > "bigjohn" wrote: > > > I’m running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 > > on a Dell Dimension 4600 desktop computer. Most of the MS Office updates which Outlook is a part of, will not update without the install disk.
