Hi there! I recently bought a Dell Inspirion 17R (manufacturer refurbished) and unfortunatley, I can't say I'm entirely happy with my purchase. Just now as I started up from hibernation, the laptop failed to boot to windows properly. Over all the laptop is performing below the standard which I was expecting, surfing the internet often throws up page loading problems more to do with the actual laptop rather than connection, and just getting into windows takes over 3 minutes. Also there have been a couple of times when the CD drive seems to go abit mental, and sounds almost as if it's about to launch to the moon! This is only when I have a CD still in there after starting up the laptop however.

So I'm wondering if anybody can tell me wether or not this type of behavior is to be expected from a brand new laptop? Or is it the case now that every pc has their imperfections and I should just learn to live with it??

Thanks for your time.

J

Hi and welcome to ExTS

(manufacturer refurbished)

Did you buy this from a reputable source?

Did you get any sort of warranty with it?

Have you contacted the seller and explained your problems ?

To answer some of your questions:

Your machine should boot up in far less than 3 minutes.

I am using an old Vista machine that is clogged full and that boots up in less than half this time.

page loading problems

Obviously there shouldn't be any problems - what are the error messages?

One more question:

Was this machine performing OK when you first got it ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Hi. Thanks for clearing that up, I was sure technology's meant to advance, not regress!! The laptop was bought through ebay from a well established store which aquired the laptop straight from Dell, i.e. Dell M.R, including 1 Year Dell warranty. I havent contacted the seller as yet but I am in the process of speaking with Dell. There are no error messages it just decides when it dosent like a certain page and freezes up entirely or the mouse can become stuck accross the page. Every time I've had to force close the page it wants to send an error report but it takes much too long. When I first bought the machine it was performing quite well but has continually been slow on start up, however it did'nt have a problem with windows untill I applied the most recent windows updates. To add insult to injury I did'nt create a backup disk like I was advised to do on first use so I can't revert back to the original settings. I suppose the bewst thing for me to do would be to run a couple of free diagnostics and get back to the seller with the results?

Hi again

If it was ok until updates were installed try System Restore.

Start > type in .....system restore .....hit ENTER

Select a date when you know the system was working OK.

Also:

Download MBAM from here:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_pro

Click the Products tab - you want the free version

Install > Update > Run it.

It will produce a log.

Copy this and post it here.
