Guest Sarki Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Hi We have been running a Win 2000 Server as a file server through an ADSL Gateway. We have set up single port forwarding on the Gateway, and it runs as a PC Anywhere host absolutely OK. The Server is part of a workgroup (we have no need of a domain in a small office). We have now set up a Win 2003 Server which will ultimately replace the Win 2000 Server. The Server is loaded with CA internet Security Suite. However, no matter what we do, we cannot get either Remote Desktop or PC Anywhere to run on it. We have disabled the CA Internet Security Suite firewall and have set up port forwarding to the remote Win XP Pro PC, but without success. Is there something in Win 2003 that is preventing us connecting? If you can please point us in the right direction of what to look at and change in 2003 security that will allow this to happen, we would be very grateful. We have followed all the instructions we can find but to no avail. Regards

In Control Panel - System - Remote? When you try to connect to the server through RDP, which rdp client version are you using? Are you using an account which has permissions on the server to connect through rdp? Do you get any error messages when you try to connect? If yes, what is the *exact* text of the message, and in which stage of the connection process do you get it? Have you checked the EventLog on the server? Have you enabled auditing of security events on the server (to see failed logon attempts)? I've no idea how CA Internet Security works exactly, but port forwarding on a firewall has to be setup to the server, not to the XP client. I.e. you have to create a rule which forwards all incoming traffic on port 3389 to the server. _________________________________________________________ Vera Noest MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server TS troubleshooting: http://ts.veranoest.net *----------- Please reply in newsgroup -------------* =?Utf-8?B?U2Fya2k=?= <Sarki@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote on 25 jul 2008: > Hi > > We have been running a Win 2000 Server as a file server through > an ADSL Gateway. Can you connect when your local to the server? In other words, bypassing the gateway completely?
