I'm sure this is possible I just haven't quite cracked it yet.

I've got task scheduler to wake the laptop up from standby and play the video but I'm still at the logon screen.

So, I did this...

and the laptop now logs on automatically but unfortunately to the administrator account, is there an easy way round that?

It looks like you can auto logon by changing the registry...

Isn't there an easier way to wake up to a video?

I've heard these phrases but I dont have any experience with either..

command line

logon script

What say you?

There is a reg edit, though note in many cases, it requires the computer to be booted twice in order for it to work.

The below is for Windows 7...note that this trick does require the computer to be booted up twice in order to work in some cases:

  1. Log into Windows 7 with admin privileges
  2. Open Start menu and enter regedit, and hit enter
  3. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
  4. Click on AutoAdminLogon, click on Modify and set the Value data to 1. If you do not have this entry, create it.
  5. Follow step 4 to edit or create DefaultUserName
  6. Follow the step 4 to edit or create DefaultPassword
  7. Restart your computer, and check your settings
