GRANDAD Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Quick question please, when trying to access Win media center on my laptop using WIN VISTA PREM OS, it says that the system [WMC] has stopped working-- check for updates. This i have done several times to no avail, same comments after updates. My desktop has WINDOWS7 OS and i do not have a problem with this. Is there a quick fix for this or may i be doing something wrong?. Thanks. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Hi Grandad, has it worked OK in the past? If so I can only suggest a system restore back to the time when it did work. The only other option I can see would be perhaps a Vista repair, but you would need the disk for that, do you have one? The next question is other programs, especially other media players, are there any differences in that area between the Vista Laptop and the W7 desktop, if so it could be a conflict. Nev. GRANDAD Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Hi Plastic Nev, albeit i have had the laptop for about 2yrs i have never used the WMC. The laptop came with Vista pre installed however i did completed a disc [2-discs] back up. As far as i am aware both my units have the same set up. The only reason i was looking at the WMC was to set up SKY , but once again there is a direct way of doing this through SKY GO. Cheers. Quote

Are you trying to reach WMC via extender, such as Xbox 360, or trying to just open WMC on your laptop from within your laptop? Referencing your win7 desktop and Vista laptop was a bit confusing. In any case, have you ran 'chkdsk'? This typically solves a great majority of conflicts. Follow the instructions in this article to run chkdsk: [How to Run CHKDSK Have you happened to install Bitdefender lately on your Vista laptop? If so, this is a common issue and requires a simple change to the pcontrol.xml file in the Bitdefender directory. Post back here and I can provide you more details. Quote

GRANDAD Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Just ran a chkdsk but the program will still not run. However i have notice the following -- Media Center has stopped working -- problem details show on Problem Signature 09; System UnauthorizedACCESS Does this help at all? Quote
RandyL Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Hi GRANDAD. This probably won't work but try right clicking it and select "run as administrator". The only other thing I can think of is to turn it off then back on. Go to Programs and Features in the Control Panel. Next click on Turn Windows features on or off. Expand Media features and uncheck Windows Media Center. Click OK etc. and reboot the system. Do the same thing to turn it back on. I'm not sure but you may need to reboot again after turning it back on. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. RandyL Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Good deal. As long as you got it working that's all that matters. My instructions were taken from my Windows 7. Vista must be slightly different. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else.
