Guest JP Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 These both happen on one laptop sometimes: 1. Windows Explorer freezes when changing navigation from one folder to another. Sometimes it will recover itself after a minute or so. Or we can click close to stop non-responding program. The desktop shell then restarts by itself. Other applcations can be run normally while Explorer itself is frozen. And the frozen window can be minimised. 2. The boot hangs after the Start Up display appears. Including the /SOS switch in the boot.ini showed that it froze after all drivers are loaded and when a primary GUI appears to show the Windows version and CPU information. Hard-shut-down>start in Safe Mode>shut-down,>start normally and all is well again. Swapped memory and did CHKDSK /R and defragged and did SFC/scannow, and also used CCleaner to check for system errors - still happens. But as said at the beginning - sometimes only. We have a feeling these are somehow related. Have not be able to relate these to anything specific done on the unit. Also, they don't always happen at the same time. A puzzler for us ageing folks here. TIA for any insights. JP --

Guest Leythos Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Re: Explorer and boot process freezes In article <dkoik.16314$mh5.14258@nlpi067.nbdc.sbc.com>, toidi@tpap.com says... > Ignore posts made by the person called Leythos, he is a stalker who's been > obsessed with me for years ever since I spurned his advances towards me. > Do you really want to trust someone that was banned from posting directly to Microsoft Usenet servers, someone that has posted links to pornographic materials on HIS WEBSITE, who's website is in the MVP HOST Block list, and who provides a tool for your use that will block access to reputable anti-malware sites without telling you he's doing it? And do you really want to trust someone that has had to change their posting identity after being busted by MS as a fake MVP? -- - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)
