Guest Abe Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I recently installed Windows Server 2008 Enterprise (x64) for my laptop and it just started randomly shutting off. I wanted to investigate a few things: CPU temp and device drivers. No errors are getting logged against the Event Viewer, but when I try to go to Device Manager, i get the error: MMC cannot open the file c:\windows\system32\devmgmt.msc There is KB for XP addressing this and that didn't fix anything for me. Is there another reason I can't go to the device manager? Thanks, Abe
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Re: laptop shuts off Hello Abe, Was it an upgrade or fresh install? Is the hardware compatible for 2008? Do you have all correct drivers for 2008? Did some error message or warning occur during installation? Guest Abe Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Re: laptop shuts off It was a fresh install. Everything was clean and clear. ALl the appropriate drivers were installed. Its been running fine for a month. I figured that somewhere there would be errors that I could see. Also, winprvse32 is running at 10%. I don't have windows resource manager installed and I checked that it is not a trojan and is running from the right location.
