Guest Ken Mc Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I keep getting "found new hardware" and I have not added any. How do I find out what the hardware is? The normal wizard cannot find any drivers to install, nor does it tell me what hardware was found. -- Yours, Ken Mc
Guest JS Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Re: XP keeps finding new hardware Start/My Computer/View system information/ Click on the 'Hardware' tab, click on the 'Device Manger' button. In the displayed list of devices, do any have a yellow question mark displayed? If so this is the device that most likely is missing a driver or is not functioning properly. Guest Ken Mc Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Re: XP keeps finding new hardware JS, I had already done that. The problem is there is no identity for the hardware, just the yellow question marks. In the past looking deeper I did see a USBSTOR set of stuff. I cannot, nor can the system Identify and use the device. -- Yours, Ken Mc "JS" wrote: > Start/My Computer/View system information/ > Click on the 'Hardware' tab, click on the 'Device Manger' button. > > In the displayed list of devices, do any have a yellow question mark > displayed? > If so this is the device that most likely is missing a driver or is not > functioning properly. > > JS > > "Ken Mc" <Keemc@example.com> wrote in message > news:04E948C3-BC21-42CB-9167-F9AC448CA9A9@microsoft.com... > >I keep getting "found new hardware" and I have not added any. Guest JS Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Re: XP keeps finding new hardware Have you checked your BIOS as some have the ability to disable unneeded devices that are built into the motherboard. Guest Kelly Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Re: XP keeps finding new hardware Hi Ken, Right click My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager. Anything listed under Unknown will show up in Add New Hardware. You may also want to show hidden devices during your troubleshooting. That being said, is this a new install, repair install, have you added a new modem or network card...... If none of this applies, what subtitle are the question marks listed under? And what have you added before these actions began? -- All the Best, Kelly (MS-MVP/DTS&XP) Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm SupportSpace http://www.supportspace.com/pages?aiu=kellyskorner "Ken Mc" <Keemc@example.com> wrote in message news:04E948C3-BC21-42CB-9167-F9AC448CA9A9@microsoft.com... >I keep getting "found new hardware" and I have not added any. Guest Ken Mc Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 RE: XP keeps finding new hardware Ok, After much guessing and install a thing called "Driver detective" which did not solve the problem. I updated many drivers... none worked until----- I went to the HP printer site and downloaded new drivers for my photosmart 7660 and the USBSTOR_ "new hardware" problem was cured. -- Yours, Ken Mc "Ken Mc" wrote: > I keep getting "found new hardware" and I have not added any.
