RandyL Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Is this it? http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=41 The FAQ page has your error listed. Make sure you have all the downloads available installed.

Q. When I launch VTFEdit I get the following error message: "A required .DLL file, MSCOREE.DLL, was not found."

A. VTFEdit is written in C++ .NET and such as requires the .NET runtimes to run. See the downloads page for more information.

I would be very concerned however if you are not getting Windows Updates. Do you have SP3 installed? Quote We are all members helping other members. RandyL Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I have merged two threads into this one. I notice quite a few posts from you with problems. now i cant install programs, i have installed winxp several times in a fortnight As you have reinstalled and still have problems including Windows Updates I have to ask. 1. What is the make, model and number of your PC. 2. How are you reinstalling? 3. Are you installing from disks? 4. Are the disks for your PC? 5. What does it say on the installation disks? 6. Have these disks been used on another PC? 7. What happens and what errors do you get when running Windows updates after the reinstallation? 8. Have you installed any updates including SP3? matabhaine Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 1st I have only made three posts on this forum, one was in 2009, sorry about making 2 threads an honest mistake anyone could make. My pc is giving me a headache, I have reinstalled windows many times, the pc runs fine until i install updates then it starts to play up, I installed avast and it keeps messing up, secuirity essentials made my cpu run at 100% usage, took it off and tried to install avg but it wont install, I had .net framework 2 on my pc, vtfedit worked fine, then latest update 3.5 installed and nothing requiring 2.0 would install or run. I have changed just about everything in the pc, hd keep crashing, makes a strange noise, I take it out and put new hd in and it works fine, but goes through the same odd behaviour when I dl updates. my pc is a custom pc win xp asus striker extreme mobo intel quad 9650 GC Palit 9600 GT Seagate Sata 2 500GIG HD Corsair 4 gig vengeance 1666 ram running at 1333 used other modules, A-Data 800 mhz psu 570 watt, might be underpowered, will be buying an 850 watt next week. soprano case i am installing win xp from sp2 original disc, without net connection, then installing asus drivers, then nvidia drivers, then comodo firewall, i defrag after every install, just something i do. i then go onto net and register, and dl the updates, i dl as much as it offers me, i then have to dl updates such as .net framework 2.0 on my own or when a program that needs it asks me if i want to dl it. i install av and smart defrag 2, adaware keeps messing up so i have stopped using it to. all stuff xp, drivers, comodo firewall from disks, defrag from a burnt disc and anti virus from net, they only let you dl installers and not the full issue. they are my pc discs, came with hardware, nividia dl'd from their site and installed from burnt disc. not sure what you mean by what does it say on install discs discs used have been new installed all updates available Failed to connect to server. RandyL Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Thanks for the information. That's a lot of information so it should help. Unfortunately I don't know what's going on either. Were you able to install SP3 from Windows updates? Are you still using IE version 6? The reason I ask about the XP disks is that sometimes they are not legit and that can cause issues with updating. I assume they have the microsoft logo etc. It really is strange. Once the OS is installed and nothing else to conflict Windows updates should give you everything. Conflicting security software or malware can also cause issues such as not being able to update Windows or interfere with things like Malwarebytes. So if Windows is fully updated including SP3 then the only thing I can think of is program or software conflicts. Quote We are all members helping other members. Plastic Nev Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 I would get rid of that Iobit software too, the company that makes it has already been taken to court for copying other software, and not getting it right either. etavares Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 HI, I can take a look at the logs to see if you're still infected. A few things: First, please uninstall IOBit if you haven't already done so for the reasons Nev mentioned. You mentioned you reinstalled Windows...did you literally reinstall or did you do a system restore point? If you installed, was it a repair install or a normal install? Please follow the instrucitons here then post the logs in this thread.
