Guest Holly Kubick Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 I am trying to open a machine embroidery file that is .blf . I want it to open with a program named Edit 'N Stitch. I have 4 programs from this company on my computer and for some reason, the only one that the computer will allow me to put on the list is Personalize N' Stitch and in the recommended programs is it simply referred to as embroidery application. In folder options, I have selected the File types tab, highlighted the specific file and clicked change. The desired program is not on the list so I browse to the program files where I have the Edit 'N Stitch.exe - select it and click apply and it will not put the program on the list. If I go to the Explore files and directly to a .blf file, right click and try open with, I still get the same response. It tries to open Pers. N Stitch instead. If I go directly to the Edit N Stitch . exe it does open the correct program. I would really like to get this program on the folder options list...any one have a suggestion? Thanks
Guest Kelly Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Re: folder options question Hi Holly, HOW TO: Specify the Program Used to Open Certain File Types http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q306/5/51.asp Added info: Check your settings here: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications Select the associated sub-key, if 'NoOpenWith' is listed, delete it. Also here: This setting allows you to control whether the checkbox to save the "Open With" program is available when an unknown file type is opened. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell\openas\command and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\openas\command To enable the checkbox set the (Default) value to "rundll32.exe shell32.dll,OpenAs_RunDLL %1". Return to the desktop and press F5 for the change to take effect. %SystemRoot%\system32\rundll32.exe %SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,OpenAs_RunDLL %1 %SystemRoot%\system32\rundll32.exe %SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,OpenAs_RunDLL %1 -- All the Best, Kelly (MS-MVP/DTS&XP) Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm SupportSpace http://www.supportspace.com/pages?aiu=kellyskorner "Holly Kubick" <h.kubick@mchsi.com> wrote in message news:Veuik.269667$yE1.257728@attbi_s21... >I am trying to open a machine embroidery file that is .blf . Where is the exe file located? (e.g., c:\Program Files\Edit N Stitch\Stitch.exe)
