KenB Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Hi, take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 When you first go to the link there is an "Auto Fix" that pops up. Give this a try. ylind Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 Boy was I wrong - everything came back after the reinstall perfectly - Then it asked to update which I did (20 updates) and BANG everything is gone. A brand new screen with 3 icons (my computer, my documents, and recycle bin) - Not at all happy. So I start checking to see where all my files are only to find out that I cannot access my C: drive at all (Access Denied) nothing I do will let me into my C: drive I need help big time Quote Kind Regardsy.L
KenB Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Hi again. How did you re-install? Was this recovery disks or a full retail version ? ( I assume a full retail version if this is XP Pro ) ? Did you do a Repair Install or a format and re-install ( assuming full retail version again ). You say that you have files etc on the disk - do you need to get access to these or do you have them backed up ? Do you have the facility to take the drive out and connect it to another system as a slave / external drive ? Are you getting an error message? If so what is it please ? ( I need answers to all of the above please :) ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Access denied. Note: I went to start>Accessories>System tools>Backup>Restore Wizard> by playing around here I can see all my old C:\*.* (folders only) but can't access them. Quote Kind Regardsy.L
