Hello,

My OS is XP Home/SP3;

The "My Pictures" folder was deleted. Please tell me how to get it back.?

The recycling bin has been emptied and system restore did not bring it back.

Will appreciate any help.

RE: My Pictures folder

You can re-create your My Pictures folder. This may seem like a lot to a

novice but its just a simple cut and paste then save!

In "My Documents" create a new folder called "My Pictures".

Open Notepad and copy and paste the following:

[DeleteOnCopy]

Owner=YOUR NAME

Personalized=39

PersonalizedName=My Pictures

[.ShellClassInfo]

InfoTip=@Shell32.dll,-12688

IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\mydocs.dll

IconIndex=-101

In 'owner=your name', change 'your name' to the name of your account.

Go to > File > Save As

1. In the "Save in" box select the 'My Pictures' folder

2. In the "File Name" section, enter Desktop.ini

3. From the "Save as Type" drop down list, select "all files"

Done!

Re: My Pictures folder

Deleting the Bags registry key should restore your folder.

Open the Run Box and type "cmd" then enter.

In the command window copy and paste these commands, one at a time.

reg delete HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags

reg delete HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU

Log Off, Log On.

Re: My Pictures folder

Hi George,

Click Start, Run and type:

rundll32 mydocs.dll,PerUserInit

Press {ENTER}

This creates a new My Pictures folder with the special icon.

To recover the files that were deleted, you'll need a third-party file

recovery tool.

Re: My Pictures folder

Hi Ramesh,

Thanks for your suggestion. I followed your instructions and a pop-up said

error:

PerUserInit missing. What should I look for now?

Re: My Pictures folder

Hi George,

Make sure you copy the command *exactly* and paste it in Start, Run dialog.

Note that the command-line param is case-sensitive.
