All of a sudden the appearance of all the icons in my start menu changed.

For instance, instead of the Internet Explorer icon looking like a blue e, it

looked like a blank box. Similar for Microsoft Word, etc. What's causing

this, and how can I fix it?

RE: Icon appearance

Try using TweakUI:

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx

On the right pane under Download click TweakUI.exe

Open the program, on the right pane click on Repair > Rebuild icons > Repair

now

Aldo see these:

Desktop icons change to generic icons

Generic icons displayed for items in the Desktop and Start Menu, after

uninstalling the "World of Warcraft" theme ?
