Guest Tracey Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 RE: Starting Up Computer (Programs that load automatically) Hi, Normally when getting rid of startup menu items I just remove them from MSConfig, through Start/Run, but when I execute the command it is returning nothing. It looks like I do not HAVE MsConfig on this PC. I do have a MSconfig file in the C:\i386 folder, but it appears to be called msconfig._ex so I am not sure whether this file is corrupt or what. It is a Dell Windows XP Home Edition. Any idea's? Tracey

I wonder if some malware is preventing the program from running, or has removed it.. If so, the following probably won't help. To replace the missing file: Click Start, Run, type: SFC /SCANNOW Click OK. (Please notice the space before the slash.) If any files are damaged or missing, they'll be replaced. You may need to reboot afterwards. -- Joe =o)
