Hello, I have been offered a choice of two graphics cards to update an old computer, please could someone let me know which is the best one?

ATI Radeon 9800SE AGP * 256MB * 8x AGP * and the Nvidia GeForge FX 5200.. PCI

I haver no idea which is of the highest efficiency... and both would fit this window xp computer.

Many thanks

Hi and welcome to ExTS

I would suggest the ATI Radeon 9800SE AGP.

This is based on the fact that PCI ( which is an older system than AGP ) transfers data at 133MB/s

The AGP ( Accelerated Graphics Port ) is a graphics specific port and transfers data at 2133MB/s - a significant difference.

I think it is no contest :)

There is a more recent PCIe option that is faster than the AGP but your old motherboard will not support this.

I think AGP slots on the motherboard were gone by 2007 / 08 and AGP cards would have been available up until then and for a short time afterwards.

They are difficult to get hold of now.

Thank you.. some interesting reading, from what I can make out the Radeon X1950Pro was probably the last 8x agp card,, unless someone nows different.
