OrganMan Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Hello, I have been offered a choice of two graphics cards to update an old computer, please could someone let me know which is the best one? ATI Radeon 9800SE AGP * 256MB * 8x AGP * and the Nvidia GeForge FX 5200.. PCI I haver no idea which is of the highest efficiency... and both would fit this window xp computer. Many thanks OrganMan.. KenB Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Hi and welcome to ExTS I would suggest the ATI Radeon 9800SE AGP. This is based on the fact that PCI ( which is an older system than AGP ) transfers data at 133MB/s The AGP ( Accelerated Graphics Port ) is a graphics specific port and transfers data at 2133MB/s - a significant difference. I think it is no contest :) There is a more recent PCIe option that is faster than the AGP but your old motherboard will not support this. KenB Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 You may find this useful: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Best-Graphics-Card,2011-5.html I think AGP slots on the motherboard were gone by 2007 / 08 and AGP cards would have been available up until then and for a short time afterwards. They are difficult to get hold of now. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
