Windows server 2003 - change Domain Name for Webserver

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have an internal domain, in the format vpr.univ.edu. There is a

web server on this domain that can be reached on the web by its name

red.vpr.univ.edu. I removed this webserver red, from the domain vpr,

and made the ip address of red point to http://www.vpr.univ.edu (instead of

red.vpr.univ.edu).

I now have a problem. I am able to reach red from any computer outside

the vpr domain using the URL http://www.vpr.univ.edu.

But from any pc inside the vpr domain, I still have to use the url

red.vpr.univ.edu

I removed red from the DNS server for vpr.univ.edu, also from the

hosts file.

What do I need to do to make pc's within the vpr domain refer to red

using www instead of red?

Sorry if the question is somewhat winding, I am new to DNS.

Thanks very much for all help!

Sue,

You need to create a host or alias record on your internal DNS for a host

called "www" in the DNS zone vpr.univ.edu.

Thanks for the help. Another question, - I removed red from the

internal domain, do I still have to creat a alias for host www in the

DNS zone vpr.udel.edu? (red does not belong to the domain vpr.udel.edu

anymore). Thank you again.

Thanks so much for helping - it worked! I changed the www host A to

point to the IP for this server (it was pointing to a different server

currently not in use) and this solved the problem!
