Guest Swissy Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Hi Recently, when I receive .jpg attachments from people and I try to open them, I get an error message that says there is no association for the file type It shows the file type as WER. I've never seen this before and I never had this problem in the past. The file extension of the attachment is ..jpg. When I save the files to my folder, it also shows the description under the type as WER. What is this type of file and any idea how to get my computer settings to treat these files as jpg's the way it did before?

Guest Swissy Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Re: trouble with jpg files Thanks Richard It used to open automatically with the correct program. I've fixed it, but it still shows the file type as WER which it never did before. Any idea what this type of file is? I've looked at my folders containing my pictures and most of the .jpg files are now showing this as the file type when it used to show another one before (can't remember which...one of my photosuite programs). I just don't understand why it suddenly changed. Guest RJK Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Re: trouble with jpg files I don't know ! Assuming that you haven't recently installed an application which you've allowed to interfere with filetype associations - If you save an "attached" *.jpg file, and Windows Explorer lists it with a different filetype - I think I would suspect malware, or virus ! regards, Richard "Swissy" <Swissy@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1F05A9FE-C280-4FBB-94BC-6B54BA4BDB45@microsoft.com... > Hi > > Recently, when I receive .jpg attachments from people and I try to open > them, I get an error message that says there is no association for the > file > type It shows the file type as WER. When I open up my documents folder, it will list all my files with columns called Name, size, type and date modified. Under the type column, it shows it as 'wer'. The file name itself does not include wer as part of the extension. All the jpeg files names are show as *.jpg (* being file name). I am just stumped as to where the file type of wer came from when it was never there before. I've run my adware program and ran a Norton full scan, but it did not find any malware or virus. > > >
