Guest Smirnoff Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 When looking at "Properties" of some installation files, at the bottom (under Attributes) there is additional information: Security: This file came from another computer and may be blocked to protect this computer. There is also an "unblock" button. For the life of me, I don't remember seeing this until recently. The installation program seems to work OK without clicking the "Unblock" button. However, I am wondering which program/feature is generating this info. Logic says that it is Windows firewall (which I have recently reverted back to from Comodo) but no warning dialogue appears when trying to run the program. Also, have recently installed SP3. Apart from Windows firewall, I am running AVG 8 (free), SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot S&D (with immunisation), Ad-Aware, SpywareBlaster and CCleaner. The info may have always been there but I have just noticed it. Any ideas?

Locate the file,go to run, type:SigVerif In SigVerif, browse to scan in area of unknown file, run the test.And/or,simply delete it,microsoft for sure did not send it to you,it probably is a virus... See: http://www.nivas.hr/blog/2008/07/16/this-file-came-from-another-computer-well-doh/ http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/image-vp592089.html Would have thought a less complicated solution would be available. However, as it doesn't seem to disrupt anything too badly, I'll just ignore it.
Guest Smirnoff Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Re: This file came from another computer....... One of the files I am referring to is the AVG installation program, definitely NOT a virus. Any > ideas? You'll find that with certain files, especially ones like Help files not provided by MS. You have to unBlock them before you can access the entire file. Quite a few applications will react that way. HTH
