12tom Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 My free AVG security keeps showing warning notices that i'm using too many MB while using IE - it recommends that i close IE and re-open. does this sound right, or is it some kind of nuisance that can be eliminated? Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted October 19, 2011 ExTS Admin Posted October 19, 2011 I've always steered clear of AVG, so have no knowledge of the menu's. Seems a lot are disgruntled with it, take a look at the reviews: http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/download-review/1957340/avg-anti-virus-free-2011-v1001191 Quote Member of:UNITE

kamrez224 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 i am getting these messages with opera as well Quote
Plastic Nev Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 Simple answer is to dump AVG and install a more user friendly antivirus Personally I use Avast, but the Microsoft own "Security Essentials" is now extremely good as well as a few other free downloads. patrick Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I also use Avast! I have used Avira in the past also... And personally I find Chrome much less 'heavy' than IE these days, so maybe switching browsers would help? (although I know some folks fiercely defend IE though!). Just my take... Quote
martinlikecomputers Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I regularly use AVG and yes you get the message about the memory but you don't have to act on the message. It is only there to give you the advice of the message. What the message means is that the internet page is using a lot of memory and that close the program could increase performance Quote
etavares Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I'm not sure about IE, but Firefox is known for having memory leaks if you leave it open for a long time. The RAM usage climbs. It could be something similar. I used to use Avast, but haven't liked the last few updates so I use Microsoft Security Essentials now. -etavares Quote etavares is a member of:Alliance of Security Analysis ProfessionalsUnified Network of Instructors and Trained Eliminators
directlysubtle Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 AVG free isn't much good and we usually removed it from customers computers. Avast free for home use is a great product if you know how to reconfigure the settings for maxium coverage. Even purchased products need settings reconfigured for good coverage, but why pay if you if you can it free? Quote
