Guest Danger_Duck Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I've never used powertoys before and have in fact just heard about them. Before I even try something though(software-wise), I like to hear others' experiences. So: 1. Any known bugs/difficulties using them? 2. Have they been useful to you? Thanks! Tweak UI This PowerToy gives you access to system settings that are not exposed in the Windows XP default user interface, including mouse settings, Explorer settings, taskbar settings, and more. Version 2.10 requires Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2003. Power Calculator With this PowerToy you can graph and evaluate functions as well as perform many different types of conversions. Image Resizer This PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a right-click.

In my view TweakUI (I don't personally find any of the others particularly useful) should be seen as essential tool for everyone. It's extremely easy to use, and there are no problems with it. Note that TweakUI doesn't do anything you can't do without it. It's essentially nothing but a special-purpose user-friendly registry editor. But if you can do something with TweakUI, rather than editing the registry directly, it's always a easier, safer way to accomplish it. > Tweak UI > > This PowerToy gives you access to system settings that are not exposed in > the Windows XP default user interface, including mouse settings, Explorer > settings, taskbar settings, and more. > > Version 2.10 requires Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2003. > Power Calculator > > With this PowerToy you can graph and evaluate functions as well as perform > many different types of conversions. > Image Resizer > > This PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a > right-click. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup
Guest JS Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Re: What do you guys think of these powertoys? TweakUI is a very useful tool and is relatively safe for most users as they don't need to use the registry editor or other less obvious methods to make changes to Windows. SyncToy v1.4 (Not the 2.0 Beta which still has bugs and taking forever to go gold) is a simple and effective file backup utility. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=E0FC1154-C975-4814-9649-CCE41AF06EB7&displaylang=en JS http://www.pagestart.com "Danger_Duck" <DangerDuck@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:9F2D1229-9DEF-415D-B1A3-3E3CACF0B39E@microsoft.com... > I've never used powertoys before and have in fact just heard about them. > Before I even try something though(software-wise), I like to hear others' > experiences.
