Guest Jim Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 When trying to perform a defrag I get the following message: Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is sceduled to run on the volume (C:). From previuos info Chkdsk is suppossed to start itself upon a re-boot. But it does not. I downloaded a third party 30 day trial Disk Defragmenter to try ( Diskeeper 2008) but it gives me a meesage that it cannot run until the Chkdsk has run. I have Windows XP........any suggestions?

Guest Gary S. Terhune Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Re: Disk Defragmenter It's in my XP Pro, and I don't even have CHKDSK set to run. In mine, the entry is: BootExecute = autocheck autochk *lsdelete, but that last part belongs to Lavasoft (AdAware) and is not required. Are you SURE you're in the right Key? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager If so. right-click the empty space on the right side, New>"Multi-string value". Name it BootExecute (no space), then double-click it and type in: autocheck autochk * Then click OK. Close Regedit and restart. -- Gary S. Guest Gerry Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Re: Disk Defragmenter Jim You say chkdsk does not run. What actually happens in terms of messages? Run Disk CleanUp and see if that makes any difference. How much free disk space is there on C? -- Hope this helps.
