Guest fwall4 Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Hello: Ever since I downloaded (via Windows Update) WDS version 5.1, I noticed in the Event Viewer under "Security" up to 100 Event ID's 528 and 576. This happens everytime that WDS indexes. With the older version of Windows Search this never happened. I don't like the idea of "Security" getting hammered with this many events because it could hide a "real" security problem in the clutter. Other than removing the new WDS what can I do to stop these entries? I appreciate any info on this matter. Thanks, Fred

Guest PA Bear [MS MVP] Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Re: Windows Desktop Search. WDS v3.1, maybe? 1. Uninstall your current build of WDS & reboot. 2. Install the just-released (and offered by Windows Update) replacement, Windows Search 4.0: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/desktopsearch/default.mspx -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ fwall4 wrote: > Hello: Ever since I downloaded (via Windows Update) WDS version 5.1, I > noticed in the Event Viewer under "Security" up to 100 Event ID's 528 and > 576. Guest fwall4 Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Re: Windows Desktop Search. Hi Robear and db: Thank you both for your response. I uninstalled WDS v.4.0 and things are back to normal. I really don't use the Search Program that much and I don't care for the constant indexing in version 4.0 that seems to slow down my PC. Maybe if another version becomes available I'll give it another try. Again, thanks very much, Fred
