Major Windows XP Problem

This morning I went to turn on my laptop -- Windows XP, Service Pack 3 -- and

all I got out of my laptop was 4 loud distinct beeps and then it attempted to

restart. It got to the Windows XP screen and then went black. Then nothing.

Forcing a restart, I once again get the 4 loud and distinct beeps, but after

that all I get is a black screen and it doesn't even proceed to the Windows

XP screen. I have never encountered anything like this before.

There doesn't seem to be any way that I can start it up in Safe Mode......

is there?

Any ideas on what might be going on or how I can even begin to approach this

very new situation. All ideas/input would be most sincerely appreciated!

The four beeps are from the BIOS doing a POST (Power On Self Test) and

finding a problem.

Normally, one beep means all tests OK. Four tells you something else.

You'll need to consult your motherboard manual, or the website, to

find out what fault 4 beeps means.

You've got a hardware fault, nothing to do with XP.

Good luck.

The beep codes are specific for the BIOS your computer has, take a look at

http://bioscentral.com/beepcodes/amibeep.htm or go to the manufactures site

and see if they have more information.
