Corrupt folder - advice needed

Hi folks,

Just after some advice. I have a problem with one of our servers

running 2003 server R2 and DFS file replication.

I have noticed i have a corrupt folder within a folder that is

replicated using DFS. In the system event log i am getting a lot of

Disk - Event ID 55 errors in the event log:

Event Type: Error

Event Source: Ntfs

Event Category: Disk

Event ID: 55

Date: 30/07/2008

Time: 11:07:05

Description:

The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please

run the chkdsk utility on the volume Data.

I am just busy moving a lot of critical stuff off the disk incase of

any problems. The plan is to try and switch or pause the DFS

replication as I'm thinking that this is what is causing all of the

errors (as the corrupt folder isnt in use but it is in the DFS

replication). Then reboot the server and run a chkdsk d: /f. I have

tried to run it through windows but it drops out half way through and

doesnt fix the error.

Anyone any suggestions? Is there a tool I can use to correct the

error? Not too bothered about recovering the work as there is nothing

in the folder!

Is a reboot the best option? Dont want to reboot it if I end up

loosing the stuff as it's running a lot of web sites!

Thanks in advance

Fox,

- make sure you have a complete backup

- pause or stop DFS replication: I don't think this has anything to do with

the error, but it would be as well not to replicate data from the disk

- reboot to perform the chkdsk
