Jelly Bean Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Hello there..... Is it possible you are trying to do away with D drive and this partition actualy contains the recovery console that you may need in the future if the laptop incures issues? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................

KenB Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Just out of interest - how big is the D:\ partition ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
neill10 Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 Sorry ken, I just came across your reply by chance ( teach me to read every thing ) it's some thing like 211G can't tell for sure as she has it on a trip at the moment. Regards Neill Quote
KenB Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 211GB is big for a Recovery Partition. Ask her to check what is on it. It may be possible to expand C:\ .... shrinking D:\ but leaving the data intact. neill10 Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Mornning Ken, the recovery partition is on D which is labeled data. The reason she wantedto combine the partitions is on her last Tosh. laptop the D drive would never allow any data to be stored. I couldn't shrink that one ether!. Regards Neill Quote
KenB Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Hi Neil This is what my drive looks like. My Recovery Partition does not have a drive letter. D:\ (DATA) is a partition where I can save data to. DATA is the default name - which can be changed. My Recovery Partition is showing here as 9.77GB and there is no drive letter. Start > type in .....diskmgmt.msc ......ENTER What do you have? What size is the "DATA" partition? ( 200GB is NOT a recovery partition ) Does the information on D:\ say NTFS / Healthy / Primary Partition? neill10 Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Sorry Ken I have no access to the machine as my daughter has it on a trip, but yes disc managementlooks like that (diferant GB's of course). The recovery partition is on D but dosn't take up more than say 10G, I assumed that I could have expanded C drive into D leveing recovery as a seperate entity but it 'aint playing ball. We have made a recovery disc from the partition so it's safe. Regards Neill Quote
KenB Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Hi Neill Has the "Recovery" section of D:\ been put there by your daughter using software? I am assuming that it is not an arrangement that Toshiba would employ. If this is all that is on D:\ and you have a backup - it is possible to format D:\ create 2 partitions from it and expand C:\ into the larger partition. Just a thought :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
neill10 Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Hi Ken, No it was on there from start, her other Toshiba was the same. I also thought if I have a recovery disc format and go from there but lost my nerve when she said " Please what ever you do don't SNAFU it" so we've left it as is. Neill Quote
KenB Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 OK - I get the picture :) We will leave well alone. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
