When you boot up or reboot, hit F8 right after the beep and choose

Restore to Original Configuration or something worded similar to that.

Once you have XP restored, make a restore CD in case your hard drive

should ever get hosed.

Re: restoring windows xp after loading vista?

the process is called

downgrading

the process is not

unlike upgrading,

except you would

require an installation

cd with the older

o.s. on it to downgrade

your system.

it is because the o.s. are

separate and unique

operating systems even

though they are made

by microsoft.

if your system came with

the older system on it,

then i highly recommend

figuring out where it came

from.

if your system came preinstalled

with an o.s., then it would

be a good idea to get that

software from your computers

homesite/maker.

also, there are cases that if a

system came preinstalled with

windows, there might be a

holographic sticker on your

system with the product id

number.

in any case you should also

review the homesite to see

if they provided your o.s.

installation files and specialty

software/drivers and stored

them on a hidden partition on your

harddisk, instead of providing

you with the physical cd's.

otherwise, if your system is

not one of those like the above

then you might simply have

to purchase a new set of

win xp installation cd's and

obtain a new license.

let us know what you discover.

Use the recovery partition to restore back to factory.

Refer to the manual, contact the vendor, or search the manufacturer web site

for instruction on how to do this..

Re: restoring windows xp after loading vista?

You may, or may not be able to do this, it depends on how the Vista

installation was done, try here:

How to restore a computer to a previous Windows installation after you

install Windows Vista

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/933168

If your computer has a recovery partition that is still intact you may

be able to restore the computer to factory condition, verify with your

pc vendor for further help. If the computer has no restore partition

the best solution may be to call your computer vendor and tell them that

your hard drive was hosed and that you need a set of recovery disks...

or buy a new XP license and media.
