Updates not installing during reboot

I just completed a fresh install of WinXP Tablet from a cd w/ SP2

slipstreamed in. All went well.

Did the first couple of sets of updates, including the SP3 update.

Good. Then installed Office 2007 and did the update, which installed

Microsoft Update (the newer, nicer version).

Now the computer is telling me it needs to Turn Off to install 22

updates. I do it & it looks like the updates are installing (get the

"don't turn off your computer" message).

Computer seems to finish; turn it back on. Trying to do the next round

of updates fails (one of the updates is for IE7) - the "turn off" button

again having the little icon that it needs to finish doing the updates.

It *looks* like it is the same 22 updates it was doing above.

I also tried doing the steps in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

Suggestions?

How about slipstreaming in SP3 and doing an install that way? NLite is

brainless easy for doing that and at least you'd know if installing

SP3 after a fresh SP2 is what's tripping things up on the downloads

side of things.

Re: Updates not installing during reboot

Revisist the newly revised http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 and try

Method 1 and Method 2, Chris.

If still no joy, I've got something else you might try.
