Guest Sanford Aranoff Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Shall I update memory to make my machine faster? XP SP2, 3 GHz, 1 G ram, Dell.

Guest John John (MVP) Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Re: Memory Unless you use memory intensive applications like CAD/CAM, Video Editing, Photoshop, very large spreadsheets or do very serious gaming then you will probably be wasting your money. Few users even have a need for or use a full 1GB of RAM and the added RAM may just go unused. Look at the Commit Charge in your Task Manager and look at the Peak Commit Charge to determinge how much RAM is potentially needed. Guest Bob I Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Re: Memory No, updating? memory will not make the machine faster. ADDING memory MAY increase the the PC response IF the current memory is insufficient for all the programs the user wishes to access concurrently. If you do very memory-intensive tasks like video editing or photo-editing, more memory might help your performance. For the great majority of Windows XP users, 1GB is already considerably more than is needed, and adding more would do *nothing* for you. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup
