Guest Rob Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I'm using Window XP Pro version. When I bootup, my WinFax automatically boots up. I don't want it to automatically boot up and instead prefer to manually activate it when needed, which is perhaps no more than once a month. How, do I remove WinFax from the default startup list?
Guest John John (MVP) Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Re: startup problem The best way is to in the WinFax program and look in the programs settings and options to see if you can change its startup behaviour. If you can't find anything there you should be able to stop it with the msconfig tool. John Rob wrote: > I'm using Window XP Pro version. Guest db.·.. > Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Re: startup problem though the program is called winfax, it is not a program made by microsoft, like windows is. however, since you are seeking some fyi on how to configure it, you might find more info from here: http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=winfax+faq&FORM=MSNH11 by configuring winfax via the above methods, it will be just as easy to enable it, like turning a switch on and off. however, if you want to windows to force winfax from operating (like flipping a fuse box breaker/switch) then here are some suggestions: click on start>run>msconfig then go to the service tab and see if winfax has configured itself to be a service. if so, then disable it and reboot. incidentally there "may" also be a line item for winfax under the startup tab that you can disable. however it might become inactive if the service is disabled so you might want to leave the entry in the start tab alone. other methods that you can use to have windows force that winfax is not operational are: 1) disabling the modem via the hardware control panel and 2) disable the fax printer via the printers control panel. -- db·´¯`·...¸><)))º> "Rob" <rob1552@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:2a2d561b-dcad-4345-8a87-757efc199407@a2g2000prm.googlegroups.com... > I'm using Window XP Pro version. Guest ju.c Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Re: startup problem You can make a shortcut to start WinFax: 1. Open the Services applet by entering the following in the Run box: %windir%\system32\mmc.exe /s %SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s 2. Find the WinFax entry and right-click it. Select Properties. Note the "Service name:" at top. Write it down. 3. Right-click on the Desktop, under "New" select "Shortcut" Enter: SC START servicename (replace servicename with the WinFax service name you wrote down) 4. Name it "WinFax Start", or something. 5. If you also want a shortcut to stop it just create another shortcut and replace START with STOP. (SC STOP servicename) 6. For the icon you need to find the WinFax exe and select it for the icon. ju.c "Rob" <rob1552@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:2a2d561b-dcad-4345-8a87-757efc199407@a2g2000prm.googlegroups.com... > I'm using Window XP Pro version. Guest ju.c Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Re: startup problem Oh yeah, while in the Services applet, under WinFax Properties, change the startup to manual.
