Oh by clicking on the diagram itself I get the configuration page. Is that what you are after?

Hi Jim

use the 192.168.1.254 method.

You said there were menu options:

Click on Home Network

Under "Wireless" click on your access point ( something like WLAN:Thomson83C7C7 ....)

In the Location bar click "Configure"

There should be a "Security" option

Can you get this far?

There are a couple of options down below the page that I didn't see

View event logs

connectivity

You can see the problem here - it's between the seat and keyboard lol.

Thanks, I think we were both at the keyboard at the same time.

Here is the page that comes up following that path.

Is this what is needed. a BTW is that there should now be three computers showing on this network. Mine, a flap-top and my wifes computer.#

Don't miss the post above re. manual/

Yes I can get to the security thingy.

OK.

I am, for your peace of mind, going to suggest that you change the security key - so that, if your neighbour does have access somehow to your router, the new key will keep him out.

Isn't the key a predertemined set of numbers and letters from that label stuck on the bottom of the router. That is the only key I see in there,

Forgive my ignorance.

Not ignorance at all - but it should be possible to change it.

Take a look at Pages 26 / 27

from the information you have given - your security is set to WPA - PSK so you are safe selecting that option.

The safest Key is random letters and numbers - not a word.

Use 0 to 9 and letters A to F a minimum of 8 characters

Write down the new key and stick this to the bottom of the Router.

(Your neighbours don't visit and have access to your router do they ? )

If you manage to change the Key you will need to use it with each of the computers the first time you use the internet.

Let me know how you get on.

I'll just reply to that bit first then I'll attempt a change.

Ok i have chosen a new key.Written it on the bottom of said box.

No one has access to this but me.

now to try this out.

Something has been done because I have had to plug in a cable to access the net. I assume I'll now have to put in that new code somewhere on this computer.

Just a thought -

If you are using your computer wirelessly you will lose the connection when the Key is changed.

You should be able to use a cable direct to the router with no problems.

Hi Jim

I was too late with my last post.

Well your New Key is working :)

You will need to do this wirelessly...unplug the cable.

There should be an icon in the bottom right that looks like a monitor.

Right click on this > Connect to a Network.

Click on your network > you should be prompted to input the Key that you have just created.

let me know how you get on :)

Yes, I lost connection and put the cable in to reply above. I don't know where I put that new code in my computer though. I think any instructions will be the same for the flap-top and my wife's computer as they all have Vista OS's.

cheers

jim

Agggggh we did it again. Posted at the same time. Ok I assume I'll be ok from there then.

cheers

That has worked fine for this my main computer but rihgt clicking on the connect to a network does not open any dialogue box for changing the key on the lap-top nor my wife's computer. I'm now in deep do do's!

Hi Jim

rihgt clicking on the connect to a network

I didn't suggest this.

It would be left click on your Network.

I see where the confusion lies...

Right click on the monitor icon

Use the laptop pad at all other times.

Yes the monitor icons are visible on both computers with a red cross on them. The little grey box opens when left clicked but the right click is ineffective.

In some of the dialogue boxes it shows the netwok but nowhere to change the key. Arn't these things frustrating some times.

with a red cross on them

This is informing you that there is no connection ( you know this anyway :) )

In some of the dialogue boxes it shows the netwok

If you click on your network at this point - it should highlight - there is a "Connect" option at the bottom of the box.

When you click on this you will be prompted for the Pass Key.

No that does not work. If I click on the Bebox to connect it gives me the failed to connect message, and when diagnosed it tells me that either it's out of range or the key setting are not correct - which we know why. The net work Bebox is shown with a big red cross on it, if I try any other networks I'll get prompted for the key/password.

Try this:

Start > Right click on "Network" > Properties > Manage Wireless Networks ( Not the Connections one )

Click on your network > Remove.

You will get a warning about not being able to connect - ignore this.

Then go back to the monitor icon and go through the connection process.

This should work.
