I am unable find that path on any of the Vista systems here. The nearest I get from that start point is start>settings>network connections and that takes me into the networking and sharing page. It wont remove anything in there. This is difficult to understand. I have switched off the usual culprits like the firewall.

The daft part about it is that my wife's Dell wouldn't connect when coupled up with a cable, at least the lap-top is doing that.

The laptop lid is very close to the router antenna.

try it this way

Start > Control Panel ( Click on Classic View) > Network & Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks ( This is on the left side )

Click on your network to highlight > Delete from the toolbar.

Go back to the monitor icon and connect to a network.

This should now work.

or....

Start > type in .....network and sharing center ....this will show top left > click on it to open.

Then click on Manage Wireless Networks

I must have a different version of Vista as I am getting nothing like that. In classic view there is only 'network and internet' and those options have already been explored previously

In typing in 'network' I got the message that windows could not find it.

It looks as if we have at least two different versions of Vista. The laptop and my machine are very similar and these are currently in this room. My wife's Dell in the other room has a similar version as yours - it now works doing that last manoeuvre. On the laptop and my machine there is nothing in the LHS but the choice for classic and control panel home. I flicked between the two to make sure.

I have checked the updates as well.

So it's just this laptop now.

Two out of three - we are getting there :)

Is this what you see on the one remaining laptop?

Please check every couple of minutes and I will do the same.

we can get this done tonight :)

Aha, a light bulb moment! The writing (menu) in the LHS changes with each choice/click. I was only looking the once when it fired up. It now works....Phew .....Thanks very much for your help and patience. It has been a long day. At least I won't get any earache now. Thanks again.

Thanks again.

You are very welcome Jim - at least you will now be happy in the knowledge that you are the only one who knows the Network Key.

And you know from experience - that without it nobody will be able to connect to your network.

Glad I could help.

I think I've learned something here as well. I should have taken more notice that my eyes took a dive yesterday and I only had them tested and new glasses a month or so ago. Trying to read the small print on the green menu on the laptop was tortuous. But it was seeing the screened version made me look longer and closer. Thanks to you chaps we are up and running again. I haven't had any extraneous 'de-donks' all day and neither has this machine been hanging trying to get to a site. A good result all round I think. Well done.

Problem solved

Thanks very much.
