Ajg Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Hi everyone hopefully someone will be able to help me. Recently I did a full factory restore on my laptop due to a virus, now when I connect my router wirelessly it says local only and limited access. The only way it works is if I do a reset on my belkin n300. Once the router is reset it's fine until I set my Security code this then states that the pin used isn't the one that the laptop recognises this definitely is the right password as my phone and the other laptops in my house connect perfectly hopefully there is a simple solution to this and your help would be greatly appreciated. Ps currently writing this on my phone. Thanks Ash Quote
KenB Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Hi Ash and welcome to ExTS Right click on the Monitor Icon ( bottom right of screen ) Right click on "Connect to a Network" then right click on your Network > Left click on Properties I suspect that your computer is set to WEP and the Router has WPA security setup. This is possibly why your Network Key is not being recognised. Under the "Connection" tab check that " Connect Automatically ........." is ticked. Under the "Security" tab make a note of the settings. Try typing in the Network Key that you know to be correct. If the number of stars match the number of characters chances are the Key is correct. You can try the Security Type - It should be WPA - mine has 4 different options for this ......hence make a note of the original settings. Encryption Type - ( mine is set to AES ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Ajg Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 Hi Ken cheers for the reply. Everyones laptop and device is set to wpa2-personal and AES as is mine when i set the security settings up. Its really confusing also the box was already ticked. Im currently on the laptop now but without the security settings set up,I really need to set the password again, each time i do it though i then have to reset the router as its still saying the password is not the one saved on this computer. Its quite annoying because once i put the password in it wont let me do anything atall until the router is reset. Thanks Ash Quote
KenB Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Hi Ash Im currently on the laptop now but without the security settings set up I don't understand this. You have internet access without inputting the security key ? Can you let me know the exact error message you are getting re. the security key. Ajg Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 my laptop actually connects when i reset the belkin router but then when i actually set the security code it automatically stops working but the other devices in my household connect fine when the security code is entered. The error message says something, like this is not the password saved on your computer it then also states that its connected but its limited connectivity and also only says local instead of local and internet very strange. thanks Quote
KenB Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Hi Ash Try right clicking on the Monitor icon and select "Repair" Did you try changing the key (from post 2) and saving this ? Ajg Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 Yea I put the security code through the routers disk again as I was doing previously but no avail.once the security code was entered I followed through post 2 and that sorted it out. Thanks again Ps I also installed updates on my laptop earlier today but I'm not sure that had anything to do with it. Thanks again Ash Quote
