Goodie7 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 My hard drive died a few days ago and I had to go buy a new one. Bought a WD scorpio blue 500gb for my dell inspiron 1750. Installed the new hard drive into my laptop. grabbed the original cds that came with my computer to re-install everything and get my laptop going again. i put the cd in hit f12 so i can boot it up through the cd/dvd drive. go through all the tests and then nothing happens. when i turn my laptop on it still says "no bootable device" and im not sure where to go from here. any help will be greatly appreciated. Plastic Nev Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, Two questions, Are you sure you have selected the CD/DVD drive as boot device? Second, are you also sure that drive is OK and working? If the answer to the first is a yes, for some reason the BIOS isn't seeing the CD/DVD drive. Can you also select a USB port as bootable device, if so, using another computer you could transfer the Dell disk contents to a thumb or pen drive and boot from that. Goodie7 Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 thank you for replying. yes i am sure i am selecting the cd/dvd drive. and i think the drive is OK and working. it loads the CD goes through all of the tests that it should be going through and it says they "pass" and then it brings me back to the main screen where it gives me options as to what test(s) i want to run. im just not sure what i am suppose to do next. i asked an IT at work to look at it but i think he is too busy to do anything for me. RandyL Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Are you sure you're using the right disks? It sounds like you're using a diagnostics or application disk. The disk should say something like Dell Operating System Reinstallation CD/DVD. Here are the Dell instructions for reinstalling Windows from Disks. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&docid=DSN_362048&isLegacy=true Quote We are all members helping other members.
